Starting with a penchant
for melody and some clever chord changes, Ludwig
Bell and childhood friend Fredrik Swahn formed their
first band at the tender age of 16. For a few years,
they kept playing together while other band members
came and went.
Spring time 2001. After deciding to make a final
attempt to find the perfect band, the two friends
met Niklas Pettersson at a party. After talking
about music a little while, he joined the band
on the spot, bringing his keyboard and vocal skills
to the sound. The three were soon joined by bass-player
Richard Brattlund who added more power to their
pop. An old friend played drums for a while, but
wanted to pursue an academic career. When the
four members told people they were looking for
a drummer, literally dozens wanted to show them
what they could do. Many came down to rehearse,
a lot of which were excellent drummers. It looked
like it was going to be a tough call but when
Fredrik Hultgren sat down behind the drums, they
were blown away. Instantly, everyone knew this
was it. No words were spoken. The five members
took the band name Dreamboy, a name they felt
represented both the intense sadness and uplifting
spirit of their songs.
With no pretense of fame they set about writing
songs with three important elements: melodies,
harmonies and energy. Their popular success has
been almost by accident.
What became their first demo was originally recorded
as a friend’s final project for engineering
school. The friend then floated the recording
as a way to find a job. Their friend did not get
the job he wanted, but the songs themselves caught
the attention of music producer Ronald Bood. Immediately
recruiting the band to his small label, four new
recordings were made and a proper EP was born.
National radio, college radio and MTV Nordic all
picked up the two singles from the EP. The critics
were thrilled about this punk version of the Beach
Boys, focusing on the strength of their song writing
and their by now well-established reputation for
being an explosive live act. The EP was followed
by a single and more touring, and after playing
on their first big festival in Sweden, critics
wrote that Dreamboy’s 30 minutes on stage
was “magic...the best act of the whole festival”.
The band continues writing and performing as
they always have, with sincerity, intensity and
a commitment to creating the music they love.
They are now ready to release their first full-length
album. And it’s still all about melodies,
harmonies and energy. They hope you find it as
exciting as they do

"We feel excited, enthusiastic and proud
to release our EP in Japan in co-operation with
Thistime Records. It sure is a long way from Sweden
toJapan, but fortunately pop music is universal.
Neither one of us in the band have ever been to
Japan, so to go there would be a dream come true
for all of us. All we know about Japan here in
Sweden is that it is a great country with great
people, so obviously our feeling about releasing
our EP there is - great! And like an inverted
post card, we just want to say: Wish we were there!
Love / Dreamboy"
