: THE WELLINGTONS |

 |
The Wellingtons are a bunch
of fresh faced pop enthusiasts with their hands
on their power pop records and their feet firmly
planted in their Chuck Taylors.
The premise behind The Wellingtons is simple - to
create sassy, memorable tunes gleamed from the shiny
pop influences of Weezer, Fountains of Wayne They
Might Be Giants, Ben Folds, You Am I and Elvis Costello
. Delivered with class and vibrancy, their sense
of melody is augmented by buzzing guitars and intertwined,
saccharine harmonies.
The Melbourne, Australia based power poppers, have
played along side Australia’s premier pop bands
including Tim Rogers (You Am I), Even, The Pictures
and Danny McDonald, spreading their upbeat, boy/girl
fronted pop all over Australia.
“If The Beatles circa Help and The Shangri-la’s
had somehow formed a super-group this is what they’d
sound (and look) like”, Beat Magazine, Melbourne.
The ambitious group met via an on-air interview
on a Melbourne community radio station. They immediately
clicked, sharing a love for infectious power pop
gems and a disappointment in the current musical
landscape.
The Wellingtons have received strong support right
across the globe with radio play in Spain and the
U.S, as well as in their home country. Their independent
debut album Keeping up with the Wellingtons has
also caused a spark in Japan where it has sold over
1,100 copies without a record company or any promotion.
The Wellingtons are excited to be playing the international
Pop Overthrow festival in L.A in August 06 and will
be also be playing San Fransico and New York during
their first O.S jaunt.
