Together We Are Not Alone

THISTIME RECORDS

Most of us have been living our lives feeling so vulnerable since theearthquake on March 11th.
Soon after the earthquake, information overloaded online. False rumors scattered all over the place. We also happened to be the starter of them without even knowing. Some would get frustrated and angry without any specific reasons. The roof of my house collapsed and so did the rack at the office breaking many of our products.

Although, I tried hard to keep my chin up and think about what I could do to help the victims in devastated towns up north, all I could do was to take care of my loved ones and gather as much valid information as I could. I could do nothing but to face my true feelings back then.

Like after any other disaster, we got several offers for participating in benefit albums but I wasn't confident in doing anything like that.Even knowing the fact that I didn't lose anyone or place to live, I was completely lost and didn't even know where to start.

I pulled myself together and looked back what we have achieved since the day we started Thistime Records; our joy is to connect artists and fans. Receiving e-mail messages concerning us from bands all over the world made me realized that we indeed had the power to connect them and make something happen. Many of Japanese bands on our label have played in Fukushima. So has The Wellingtons from Australia. They all pictured unforgettable happy faces of their fans right away.I made up my mind.As soon as I pitched in a compilation album idea, they were all in and got started on writing/recording songs right away. My mind was clear at that point; we need to re-strengthen and keep moving forward, because we
can!

I originally had "We Are Not Alone" as a title for the album as we all die alone anyway but I thought to myself, "as a human being, shouldn't everyone be connected?―not only with friends and family but with knowledge, feelings, and music; nobody should be left alone" In fact, sharing pain with people who have gone through disasters helped us a lot.I had to admit that devastating earthquakes in Kobe or New Zealand in the past felt like somebody else's problem, even though I WAS worried. But our friends in Japan and all over the world were willing to give us a helping hand. I was so insecure for a while but I am not alone, we are not alone anymore. I came to a realization that disaster could hit anyone, anywhere, and anytime mercilessly. We are not alone in that sense, too. That's why the title, "We Are Not Alone", which would've sounded too straight-forward and even cheesy if not under this kind of occasion, never felt so right. We all share experiences with others. Even though music is not necessarily an essential element in our lives, it connects people and something good will come out of it; doesn't matter who listens to it.

I asked Jon from The Posies if "We Are Not Alone" felt right; he said, "how about adding 'Together' to it?" That definitely strengthened the true meaning of the album and it became "Together We Are Not Alone"

The album was released on April 27th through BANDCAMP, iTunes(USA,UK and others Coming Soon), and THISTIME ONLINE STORE. 100% of proceeds will go to Japanese Red Cross Society to benefit earthquake and tsunami victims in northern Japan. It's only available online at the moment but we are planning on releasing a physical CD.

STOMACHACHE. (Tomoe Miyazaki) from Nagoya created an awesome illustration for the cover, recording was done at Velvet Room Studio, mastering by Studio Sound Crew and HAMON STUDIO, and BOUNDEE took care of iTunes distribution. I can't thank everybody who's involved enough for their support and working as fast as they could.

We sincerely hope the affected areas will recover as quickly as possible.

I dedicate this song to the Japanese people. I know that their strength and willpower will see them through this terrible disaster and they will end up even stronger on the other side. I want to thank everyone in Japan who's supported my music over the years, especially Kiku Fukuzumi, who gave me the idea to write this song about Sakura.

I was devastated when I heard the news of the earthquake and tsunami. My first thoughts were to find out if my dear friends there were ok, they were. I was just in japan playing shows last summer, my third time there. Of all the places I have toured and made friends- japan has always been the country where I really don't want to leave, I always want to stay. I have made true friends there over the years that I think about a lot, and fans that have been so generous and nice. My best memories as a musician in a band or solo are all in Japan. I can not begin to understand what it is like to experience a catastrophe like this, but what I have seen and been inspired by is the spirit of the people in the midst of all this. I am proud to be your friend and be on this compilation.

The Golden Bubbles

Sonic Surf City
Our thoughts are with all our Japanese friends, and friends of friends, always and especially during these times! But when it is as darkest, it may give hope to remember that it will become brighter again, and together we can make the best of things happen. We care for you

Burke Thomas (Pris)
I am sorry for so much pain and loss. I have seen from afar what how strong your people are under pressure.
I wish beautiful Japan a speedy recovery.

Brian Broscoe (The Unemployed Misfortune)

The Click Five

Our hearts go out to Japan in this tragic time of grieving. Japan is a lovely country and has always been a favorite of ours to visit. From hiking the trails of Kamakura to spending light-filled nights out in Tokyo and Osaka, we've found the people and places in Japan to be filled with a beautiful spirit. Playing concerts in Japan has also been a highlight for us, as the audiences are some of the most warm and respectful people we've played for. We hope and believe that during this time, the Japanese people's strength and spirit will prevail and they will rebuild and recover from their loss.

Clueless
Willem, Sjouke, Daniel & Tim.
Ever since I can remember, I was always drawn towards the Japanese culture. I remember as a little boy, my dad went over there for a conference (He’s a mathematician) and he brought home these amazing Japanese posters that had all these Japanese symbols on them, save for his name. That was so cool to me, it felt like he was somekind of rockstar. Years later, hitting puberty and discovering bands such as Rancid and Green Day, I found out that Japan IS the place to tour for rockstars. All the videos of insane crowds, all the different kinds of interviews, special japanese versions of records ( I actually imported a lot of them, sorry!), to me Japan was the place to be as an aspiring musician. I couldn’t have dreamt to be where I am now, having released already two records in your country. We were touring the UK when I heard the terrible news, and we practically visited every starbucks, or any bar for that matter, that had a TV on. It’s insane. It might sound a bit harsh, but the numbers of people that lost homes, friends, family, everything... It just doesn’t seem real. I sincerely wish we could do more than donate a song. But since that is what we do, I hope you can appreciate our effort. We wish you all the best doesn’t cut it. But we do, and we hope that things will get better soon. Cheers from Holland, Willem, Sjouke, Daniel & Tim.

Mr Fogg
The television pictures of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan were some of the most horrifying and frightening things I have ever seen. I can barely begin to imagine what it was like and still is like for the people that actually live in the affected areas, especially those who have lost homes, friends and relatives. The task facing Japan to rebuild seems overwhelming to us here in the UK, and yet thanks to the spirit and courageousness of the Japanese people we are already watching proof that it can be done. Against the enormity of the challenge and the incredible efforts of others, recording a song seems a paltry contribution, but I hope that enough people buy this compilation for the money it raises to make a real difference.

Tobias Wilner (Ghost Society/Blue Foundation)
Tenniscoat, Cacoy, Numb, Sokai, Cokiyo, D.O.I., DJ Baku, DJ Klock, Secai, Calm, Saidrum, DJ Krushなど、たくさんのアーティストと一緒にステージに立ちました。
I have played a lot of concerts in Japan as Bichi and Blue Foundation. I have shared the stage with Tenniscoat, Cacoy, Numb, Sokai, Cokiyo, D.O.I., DJ Baku, DJ Klock, Secai, Calm, Saidrum, DJ Krush… etc. Most of these artist are my very close friends. They know my family. They have lived in my home. I've been to their weddings. We have created art together. I live in New York these day, but I see Tokyo as my second home. I love that city. The earthquake in Japan had a big emotional impact on me. I've been reading the news ever since with questions like - How bad is the situation? Is my friend ok? I wrote the song "Broken Life" to my friends in Tokyo. It's the first new Blue Foundation song to be released in a long time. I'm very excited about my cooperation with Cecilie Trier from Choir of young Believers and Chimes and Bells. She plays the beautiful evil cello on the song. I really hope you'll like it. Tokyo you're always on my mind. Tobias Wilner
